Many senior leadership clients are drawn to coaching when there becomes a growing recognition that their existing mechanisms and strategies which may well have served them well historically no longer have the potency they once had. Many such clients initially have an expectation when they come to coaching that they will be given a different toolset to allow them to thrive in their more challenging leadership environment. However, new tools alone are insufficient without also a reframing and rethinking of their leadership role and an opportunity to dispute some of the heroic myths of leadership they will undoubtedly hold (for example, “I’m paid the big bucks to have all the answers” is one such myth). Only having first reassessed and reframed how they connect with their role and how their role connects with the organisation and their teams will they be able to more agilely apply any new conceptual ideas and frameworks.
“Baz listens intently and brought new ways of thinking about the leadership challenges I faced. Baz is insightful and challenging and gets to the heart of things quickly. He brings to the coaching relationship practical tools that help me to embed my personal learning from our coaching sessions. Many of the models that Baz left me with through the coaching sessions have become part of my own personal tool kit and are referenced when the going gets tough.”
